A Modern Garden in the Country

Llevelo Garden Design were appointed to re-design the landscape of this clients new property near Newmarket, Suffolk. The garden was part of a larger refurbishment project with the house being completely rebuilt.

The first challenge was in creating a clear approach to the front door which was positioned to the side of the house. The property sits towards the rear of the plot meaning that all visitors are essentially approaching the house through the main garden. Creating privacy and security as well as clearly demonstrating the correct way to access the front door was imperative.

Second to this was the requirement for more convenient parking. The previous home owners had parked quite far from the property which is not ideal for several reasons including having to carry shopping and quickly accessing the house during poor weather.

We opened up the side of the property to provide a parking space for up to four vehicles. We then created a much shorter pathway to the front door. To give this area better presence, we created a mini-courtyard immediately in front of the front door. This will be framed with four ‘box’ trees. By this, we mean trees that have been trained into a box shape.

The secret to balancing the rural setting of the surrounding rolling fields with the contemporary new build is always in the planting

A view of a modern patio area with 4 'table top' or 'parasol' trees; one in each corner. To the left of the patio is a small outdoor kitchen. The main home can be seen in the background.

Due to the footprint of the house which included a new protruding extension plus its position within the grounds, there were multiple garden spaces around the home. This gave us a wonderful design opportunity to explore different garden styles around the home. Of course, each side had a different aspect which had a strong influence into how we designed this luxury garden space.

This stylish new garden design includes several of our favourite garden features including a louvred pergola, sculptural and architectural trees, outdoor kitchen, firepit and bespoke water feature.

Construction due to start in the coming months.
