5. Garden Design Detailing

Covering all the garden design details

The presentation plan is a Master Plan which summarises all elements of the garden design build. The Design Detail documents are created to cover all the intricate garden design details. The level of detailing is extremely important in communicating the garden design accurately to the contractor.

Features which will require additional detailed documentation will be anything bespoke. Features may include a garden gate, water feature, fire place, pergola and outdoor kitchen.

We always say that the Design is in the detail. The design detail documents are the best way to clearly ensure the overall look and feel of the garden is consistent throughout all the features. This level of detail is the difference between a ‘good garden’ and an exceptional one.

The image to the left shows the intricate patterns of a clay paver area that we designed. Without clear detailing, it would have not been possible for the contractor to gain a clear insight into the design intention.

Bringing the Design to life

The Setting Out Plan is a highly important document which allows the Contractor to bring the design agreed on paper to life. A thorough Setting Out Plan means that there is no room for interpretation and ensures that the garden that has been agreed at the Design phase is the same as the garden that is constructed.

Setting The Scene

We then assist you in choosing complimentary colours for example for retaining walls or perhaps we’ll look to include some beautiful clay paver setts. We like to focus on textural details and this can really help break up an area of hard landscaping. As we always say, ‘The Design is in the Detail’. We’ll send you some provisional mood boards with options included for your consideration. We can then source samples or make arrangements for you to view the options in person either at a show room or sometimes to a previous clients garden.

We will discuss the advantages and drawbacks of different finishes and products, allowing you to make a clear and informed choice.

Other elements to finalise at this stage may include a water feature or pergola. What length will an overhang be? Which colour? How thick will the wood be? Which grade of wood? How tall will the structure be? We will draw up Design Intention Drawings to cover these details for your approval. You can be confident that we will take care of all of the intricate details to ensure the all the features and fittings will be in keeping with the style of your dream garden.
